Cary's Castle - March 29th

With the heat coming, I would like to do this soon. It's a new hike. My guess is that it will be gutted and graffitied fairly soon. The high for Monday is supposed to 82, but this starts quite a bit higher so we should still be in the 70's when we finish

Snow Creek

Features Hike up the PCT from Snow Creek to a vantage point of the San Gorgonio pass, Desert Hot Springs, and the windmills. The trail is all uphill but the pace will be slow. The first part is on the road to the DWA facility, then the trail climbs west and south. The fire in 2020 has left a lot of damage, but there are blooms from the recent rains.

Henderson, Shannon, Garstin Loop

Let’s meet at the Shell off Indian Canyon on the north side of I-10 between 8:00 am, we can caravan/carpool from there. Views, pictographs, birds, and great company. Chaparrosa Peak

This is an adventure hike, we scramble up 12 dry waterfalls. I've done it twice and I hate heights but up close the rocks are easier than they look. Saying that we have two climbing ropes with us and a harness for the jitters. Super fun and the geology in the canyons is amazing. Sheep are sometimes present and there is a water hole at the base of canyons for them. For those that need more we can exit out of the left canyon and hike the right canyon, no big waterfalls, and I have seen sheep back here twice.

This hike takes us back to the wonderful rock formations and geology of the mecca hills. There is one short cave to scramble through. A rope to climb down (not far), but hands and knees and some squeezing past boulders. I will have a couple of headlamps with me. Great views with a little bouldering scrambling.

Rock scrambling is involved, there are some small dry waterfalls to scoot up. See picture. Nothing the size of the ones in magnesia canyon. 

Seven Sisters Waterfall

Meetup:      Once past the gate, take the first right to Andreas Canyon Murray Canyon. As you enter the parking lot, look for a road crossing the stream to the left, then take another left down a dirt road for 1 mile and park at the end. Indian Canyon $12 per person $7 if you are 62 and older. Give yourself some extra time if this is the 1st time to the trailhead.

his is a very pretty hike with a pretty waterfall at the end. The 1st mile is on the open plateau and then we follow the stream up the canyon. We cross the stream a dozen times and chances are your feet will get wet at some point. I recommend poles to help with your balance over rocks and logs crossing the stream.

Cedar Springs

This is an excellent hike; we climb 1300 feet in 2.4 miles and come to the PCT junction. From there, we continue another .75 miles dropping 400 elevations. We turn a corner and behold a cedar forest on the desert hillside because of the springs.
This is the top of the Jo Pond trail, which connects to West Fork and the trading post in the Indian Canyons. (another 8 miles and 5000 feet down, we can daydream about it.)
Great views and wildflowers.

Meetup: 1st tram up is at 10:00 am on Tuesday. I will be in the waiting area at 9:45. Parking at the tram is free if you are a palm springs resident. Going to be at the Palm Springs Visitor Center at 9:30 if anyone wants to carpool up to the tram and avoid the parking fee. 2901 N Palm Canyon Dr, Palm Springs, CA 92262 is the address of the visitor center. Temperatures are 20-30 cooler on the mountain than in palm springs. There may still be some snow on the trail. Check the weather and dress appropriately.

Tram - Wellman's Divide

Parking at the tram is free if you are a Palm Springs resident or have the pass. Temperatures are 20-30 cooler on the mountain than in Palm Springs. Stunning views at the divide.

South Lykken

Butler Abrams - Rancho Mirage

Runs along the Whitewater wash should have wildflowers and mountain views. Path is Asphalt
